When we say eye candy it means something pleasant to look at. We all enjoy beautiful places on earth. We like looking at nice things.when I am riding around in the car and see something awesome. I take a beauty break. I stop and take it all in. There are a lot of people that get caught up in the rat race. They don’t take the time to stop and look around them and see how beautiful our planet really is.its good for the soul. Mother nature is the best artist of all. I try to keep myself surrounded in art and nature. Its good for you mentally also
This next dremel tool project, I am gonna show you is how to make a mask.people have been making them for hundreds of years.their purpose I think mainly is to tell stories and things like that. Our purpose for making one is for well, ….having fun plus they look cool.
I have already started one to show you the basics its really pretty easy if you have the right tools and determination then you should be just fine. I ve made a lot of different ones and sold a lot of them they are just kinda cool to hang around
let me to tell you that these are not intended for use they are a wall hanging and for inside only unless protected from the elements.lets get started making” eye candy”
starting out to make a mask with a dremel and creative imagination
rough half round wood file
sand paper-medium grit/fine grit
ceder stump for mask
acrylic paint-the colors you choose
large wood carving gouge
large round carbide . If you sand it down all smooth, the paint will go on easier a lot smoother
The one i am wotking on in the picture, I am gonna leave some of it natural and some painted. If you want to go that route your welcome to.It here is not much difference between the two. Only one is sanded the other is kept natural. That is the only differents
The very first thing your gonna do is ,locate a cedar stump.once you have the stump.you will need to cut a slab off.see the picture on right. The slab must be sanded down on the front with medium then fine grit sand paper.Sand until smooth to touch
Giving the bird some peepers-a birds eye view
Now that the sanding is done take the mask and with your pencil, draw two semi circles. Fairly big because the eyes will be painted on inside the circles.
Take your dremel tool and out line the two circles with a large round carbide bit or they are also called burrs Start dremeling out layers of wood starting from the outside of the circles and working your way towards the middle. Gradually tapering it off like in the pictures.the half round rasp works great in them. It sort of smooths it out, It will need sanded really well inside them until smooth.when finished set aside.
top section of beak
top and bottom beak
Building a birdy his beak
You will now need another piece of cedar to make his beak. Starting at the bottom.measure up to about where the eyes are gonna be placed. Cut the beak to fit and use. A rough half rounds rasp to shape the beak. It takes some time to get
before the beak
it so be patient. after you have shaped the top beak ,You will need a bottom one as well.for that measure from bottom up to where the top beak will be.use half round to shape the beak like in the pictures
its coming together
now take the upper beak and place it where it needs to go Trace with pencil.do the same with lower piece
gouge and dremel there were you’ve made the marks insert the beaks so they are snug and in there tight(apply wood glue before inserting) add a couple screws going in through the back. You are almost done..Now if you will notice, in the picture how I have used kinda a diamond design for the feathers. You can use it too or choose a different pattern.I used my dremel tool to carve out the feather design and did not use a lot of paint. It all depends on preference.
There are hundreds of different designs on the internet to get ideas from even for the right color!! Last but not least.polyerithane should be used to help preserve the wood and keep the colors looking bright on your awesome master peice!!
Now I have showed you how to make a mask, why don’t you try it then and send me a pic. thank you for coming, any questions or comments apply below, have a great day!!
