A little history before we make the easy friendship bracelet so here we go:
They started appearing in the united states in the early 1970. They are said to be from central America but looking farther into the history they go back around the 13th century from Arabia and also china. Both places having knowledge of the art of craft knotting it goes way back. Nobody really knows for sure but that would be a good guess……. I guess hehe Shall we move on…OK
The colors used have a different meaning used to match the recipients’ personality The number of threads like the number 3 represents past, present and future A symbol of friendship. The charms are added for flare and for personality of the recipient
They are made with respect and love for the person gifted with one, what a great way to say you are loved and respected
If you make one for your friend, you can also include a poem about friendship for the person to make it even more special
It is said that the person receiving one of these friendship bracelets is to wear it until the friendship bracelet wears out and falls apart. That is to show respect for the person who made the friendship bracelet.
Me personally, I think they are really cool and so I make them for myself. I even made one for my dog. I am not saying I don’t have any friends I am just saying I make them for myself too because I think they are cool and I make them for my friends as well….
Materials for your friendship bracelet
I like to use 4 different colors. Then I will put 3 strands of the same color together to make one strand. I hope that makes sense to you.
You can also pretty much use any kind of string, even leather straps will work I use embroidery string because of all the pretty colors they come in.
embroidery string choose 4 different colors
MAKING YOUR FRIENDSHIP BRACELET
Take 3 strands of the same color and add them together measuring arms length(I like to make them a little longer)now do the same with 3 other colors- see#1
Tie the end so there is a loop as shown in fig.2. tape it to the edge of a table.
Take your first line of color wrap it over around then thru the second color, do that twice see fig.3. down at bottom of page
then wrap it around the 3rd the same way and the 4th
your 1st color will end up on the end
then you start with the 2nd color do the same thing until bit is on the end
just keep repeating the process until your bracelet is long enough to fit on the wrist
when you are finished, tie a knot, run the end thru the loop you made at the beginning tie another knot
cut off extra string and there you have it.
It might take a little practice and also as you are going along making your bracelet you can add beads or whatever to your piece of art that will make it even more special
include a poem for your friend that you wrote is a nice gesture
If you have any questions or comments I would be happy to hear from you
