A LITTLE HISTORY Before we get started I would like to talk a little about the tree spirit. I feel that it is a good thing to know a bit about the subject you are working with. This is very interesting indeed click herehttp://amzn.to/2meSzqn
The tree spirit is hundreds of years old.you can find it in many cultures. One of them dates back to the fifteenth
century. In the black forest of Germany. The tree spirit was called a Dryad or other spiritual entity that is within the trees or Forrest. The tree spirit rules the Forrest and protects all the living things within it. It is very strong but elusive, When a tree was cut down, they had a ritual for the tree to satisfy the tree spirit within.
In some cultures, the tree spirit is believed to be a young woman. click
The Cherokee Indians believe that when you see a cedar tree, you are looking at your ancestors. They are very. Powerful protectors. Many Cherokee people carry cedar wood with them for that reason. They also place it in the entry ways of their home to protect them.
There are hundreds of myths and legends about the tree spirit all over the world. It would be impossible to tell you all of them. I will tell you that even today, in many cultures they, are believed to be real and are still worshipped
Just one more thing,it is a smart thing to practice with your rotary tool and get used to it before carving the actual tree spirit. When You get good enough at making these, people will buy them. They are a popular item.Try selling them at your local flea markets. Why not make a little cash on the side and have fun to boot?! be safe and enjoy click LETS MAKE OUR OWN A lot of the tree spirits I have seen are made out of a tree knot.the base of the limb that sticks out of the trunk.
Some can get pretty big, we will make a medium-sized one.you can find them in fallen decaying trees like fur or cedar. Sometimes you can pull them right out. You can also find them already out just lying on the ground.
Once you have found your piece, you will want to clean it up a bit. Now that it is clean, take a pencil and draw the face on to
give you an idea and what to go by..you can find patterns online as well.It can be goofy looking, serious, mean, happy whatever you like! It’s your piece of wood. Now pick out the spot to make the face. Usually in the middle I included a picture to give you an idea of what they might look like. You can use it for a reference or for your actual design. I also included a picture of a tree knot You are gonna want to draw the face on the wood knot. Take your dremel or rotary tool, out . Put a steel bit in it could be round or barrel shaped(medium size) .make a line a little curved on each end across, just above where the eyes will be . click
I have included these drawings as a reference for you to go by. I hope they help in explaining how to make this guy!
As you can see in step 2,you cut two lines down starting from the eye bridge. Make them wider apart at the ends. It is the sides of the nose.step 3 is the end of the nose.
Step 4 take the dremel tool and make the hair line and 5 you make the cheeks.#6 you will do the out line of the mustache.make the lines fairly deep. You see how it is taking shape?See I knew you could do it, you don’t give yourself enough credit. Pat yourself on the back.#7 bottom lip.#8 separate the brow by making a line thru the middle.
Underneath the eye bridge make two lines for the eyes.if it is a barrel shaped bit tilt it while carving.
Now it is time to do some roundings off with the cheeks and nose. Go ahead and round off the edges of nose and cheeks
you can now detail the hair and mustache. When making one of these I usually go over the lines a few times to make them deeper. Gives it more depth and it just looks better. You can also paint these. Some I do some I don’t.
Well how did you do? I showed you the basic step by step instructions, Gave you a little history and now I think you are
good to go. I truly hope you enjoyed this page and thank you for visiting and making a tree spirit with me. If you have any questions, comments(Would be great to see your wood spirit you made) please drop me a line
