This is a good project to do with kids. Get out into nature again and see what mother earth has for the start of your gnome home. I used a little log with some roots still on.They act as a stand for it.You want to look for something like that. Again I found this awesome piece down at silver creek by my house.I thought it would be perfect for my gnome home. There is a spot for the door, it stands on its own and I can easily put a porch on it. When I got it home I cleaned all the debre off then carved a space out for the door with my dremel tool and a large round carbide bit. I shaped the door out with a wood file.I use cedar for the door and most of the other parts. It is soft and easy to work with plus it smells really good. When the door was shaped to fit .Now would be the time to put a design on the door with your dremel tool and a small round carbide bit.I did not make a design on this door because i liked the way it looks as it is. Its time to inlay the door in the space made for it. Be sure to use water proof water wood glue .The door was pretty even with the outside walls. Now its ready for a frame around the door .I measured it out to the size of the door and nailed it on with small nails. Notice the screw in the door also makes a good doorknob.

Next comes the porch.Cut it to size and hammer it on with little nails or glue you can even use little pieces of wood to support it. I made my porch wrap around to the side and added a little wood pile with a little ax I filed out of cedar and painted the axehead Grey.On the front porch I put a potted plant on each side with moss in them for the plants.moss keeps its color after it drys. I thought that was cool! make a design on your flower pots with your dremel tool. Glue them down. You can add anything you want to the pots ,even pretty little rocks . click here To make the little stairs going up to the front , take a long slab of cedar.measure from porch to floor then glue little blocks of cedar wood up the slab for the steps.
On the side I made another window but made it deeper than the door space then painted the inside of it black so I could add a little gnome.he is poking his head out the window.I carved his face with a small round carbide bit. There is also a little curtain in the window. click here click here I then carved out a normal sized butterfly then glued him to the side,up above the gnome,to make it look like the gnome is saying to the butterfly”Hey,get off my house, your too big to be on there! or he is telling the butterfly”my you are pretty, stay right there so i can take your picture” or something like that. Now that everything is glued and nailed all windows ,stairs, porches etc.The last thing i do is,put Spanish moss on the roof and kinda wrap it around the home.Just a little added touch plus it looks kinda neat. The Spanish moss is great because its long so you can wrap it around things .
Ok well, i think you get the general idea on how to make one of these gnome homes so why not give it a try. These look great in flower beds .They also make nice gifts. I have sold a few as well so you can also make a little money on them.
I would love to see your gnome home no two are alike. Why not give it a try! If you have any questions or comments ,please feel free and thank you for visiting ” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”> Have an awesome day!
